Travis Miller

P.E., CSI, CDT – President

Travis grew up in Willard, Missouri, and followed his family into the construction industry. His family is rooted in construction beginning with his grandfather, who was a jack of all trades. He had a “heavy lifting” company here in Springfield which performed boiler exchanges and even included house moving. Several of his 8 children found their way into construction including Travis’s father Jerry Miller. Jerry worked as a union laborer while working his way through college to get a business degree. He worked his way through the ranks of Dewitt and Associates to become their head estimator.

In 1988, Jerry left Dewitt to start his own construction material supply store called JM Specialty Sales. Travis had the pleasure of working there beginning at the age of 12 sweeping the floors for $2.00 an hour. (He did not understand child labor laws!) Travis worked there on weekends and summers until he graduated from high school. There, he learned more than he realized about concrete form systems, insulation, caulking, patching materials, and fasteners just to name a few. After high school, Travis started working for Larry Wolf, P.E. where he learned AutoCAD version 10 and spent a number of weekends and summers interpolating contours by hand and learning the ins and out’s of civil and structural engineering. All the while, Travis attended school at both Southwest Missouri State University and the University of Missouri – Rolla (now called Missouri University of Science and Technology). Travis also worked a short period for Bockman Engineering Services as a drafter.

After graduating from UMR, Travis landed a job at Carson Mitchell, Inc, a design-build construction company in Springfield, Missouri. At this job, he worked under Kit, Jim, and Doug Carson as a construction project manager where he managed several heavy industrial and heavy commercial projects over a 6-year period. Travis passed his Professional Engineer exam in 2003 just prior to the birth of his son Alex and daughter Brooke (twins). Travis started Miller Engineering, P.C. in January of 2004 and has acted as the engineer of record for thousands of projects in 15 different states.

In his free time, Travis enjoys camping, floating, and hiking. He is a Boy Scout Leader, serves on the Camp Wakonda Committee, Camp Arrowhead Committee, Troop 174 Committee, Venture Crew 274, and volunteers for several not-for-profit organizations.
